The
S65 V8 engine used in E9X M3 cars has a rod bearing problem much like its
predecessors, and we have already seen multiple engines throw rods, which will
cost you over $15,000 to replace. Our kit, consisting of a treated
rod bearing and race-quality ARP hardware set, addresses this issue and is
recommended for cars that are driven on-track or with increased power output
(supercharged, stroked, etc).
Our
treated rod bearings are not coated - coatings often add too much material and
interfere with proper tolerances, causing more problems than they solve. The
bearings we use in our kits have been treated with a process that improves the
bearing's fatigue resistance and increases the surface's oil retention
abilities, providing more lubricity in this critical area of the S65 engine.
ARP
Pro Series connecting rod bolts are precision CNC-machined to exacting
specifications and designed for optimum reliability. They are heat-treated and
threads are rolled to provide up to ten times more fatigue strength than a
fastener with a traditional cut thread. This makes the bolts far superior to
standard OEM fasteners in terms of durability, meaning that they are capable of
handling the extra stress in high-compression engines.
Engine Note - To
protect your engine and prevent failures, either with or without our kit, we
strongly suggest a quality oil, such as Red Line with a higher zinc
content. Correct oil operating temperateure is 220F+, and you should let
your car warm up properly before subjecting the engine to higher throttle
angles and RPMs.
This
kit fits all S65 engines and includes eight upper bearing halves, eight lower
bearing halves,16 connecting rod bolts, and ARP assembly lubricant. We
recommend replacing your oil pan gasket while installing this kit. Oil pan
gaskets are available separately.
